Biography [EN]

Klaus Adamaschek was born in 1957 in the mining town of Gelsenkirchen in the heart of the Ruhr area. He started writing his own songs at the age of 12, influenced by great role models such as Bob Dylan, and Kris Kristofferson and German singer-songwriters as Reinhard Mey and Hannes Wader. During his teacher training he made his first appearances as a German-speaking singer-songwriter.

In 1985, a 20-year break from music began, during which he concentrated fully on his professional work. His professional life's work then became the ecological school camp and environmental education center in Licherode, which he managed as managing director from 1993 to 2013 and developed into one of the leading German environmental centers and a UNESCO project.

In 2005, actually at the peak of his professional career, Klaus Adamaschek rediscovered his love for folk music and songwriting. He initially writes songs in English, shaped by the authentic experiences of exciting years of life and the love for his second wife Angelika. His stage name "Shiregreen" means something like green Shire and is reminiscent of the home of the hobbits in Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings".

In February 2008, in a guitar shop in London, Angelika Adamaschek came across the advertisement for the international songwriter competition Comprosers. Shiregreen composes the piece Freedom Fighter in just two days and records the song together with his son Paul. Shiregreen wins the global competition, beating out numerous well-known artists e.g. from the US and UK. The accompanying album Reaching the shore (2009) introduced Shiregreen to a wider audience.

Encouraged by this success, Angelika and Klaus Adamaschek fulfilled another lifelong dream in 2011. For six months they travel with an old motorhome through the western USA, 25,000 kilometers with music-festivals, national parks and 40 Shiregreen performances. Adamaschek's musical travelogue was later published in the music magazine Folker (Nov. 2011) under the title "In Search of the Holy Grail of Folk Music". In the USA, Adamaschek also writes the songs for the concept album Trails (2011). In 2015 Klaus Adamaschek left his professional life at the age of just 55 and now devotes himself even more to music.

Klaus Adamaschek touches his audience with intelligent songwriting, a charismatic voice and deep thoughts. Musically, he combines influences from American folk, rock and country music with the classic German singer-songwriter tradition. Klaus Adamaschek has already released 14 albums as a solo artist and also with his Shiregreen Band, which now has seven members. His songs and albums are highly praised by the critics, the time-critical album "Deutschlandreise" stays in the official list of the best German songs for six months.

In 2022 Klaus Adamaschek begins a close friendship and collaboration with the Scottish songwriter Tom Fairnie. The joint album "Still Unbroken" results from a personal and musical soul mate, further joint projects are planned.

Some press reviews
